Fighting the elections in alliance with Aam Aadmi Party proved to be a huge loss-making deal for Congress. On one hand, Congress did not win even a single seat allotted to it. On the other hand, in protest against going with Aam Aadmi Party, the state president and other leaders of Congress left the party in the middle of the elections and joined BJP. In this way, it got neither Ram nor Maya.
Most of the state Congress leaders were not ready to contest the elections in alliance with Aam Aadmi Party. They had opposed the alliance with Aam Aadmi Party not only in front of the party high command but also publicly. But the Congress high command, in view of the national scenario, ignored the opposition of its leaders and formed an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party to defeat BJP. The result was that its state president Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned along with some leaders and joined BJP. Before taking this step, he had done a lot of bad work for the party regarding the alliance. During this time, an uncomfortable situation had arisen in front of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.
Due to this move of Lovely, a feeling of distrust was created among the workers of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party towards each other. Its effect was clearly seen in the election results. BJP had to face defeat in the neighboring states of Delhi, whereas in Delhi, BJP made a clean sweep for the third time in a row. Not only this, most of its candidates won by a big margin.
